A landing page can be a great way to get useful information from potential customers, increase sales, or simply drive traffic to your website. In this Article I will show you how to create a landing page step by step.
What are the similarities between your favourite online magazine, fitness app, and cloud-based software? Landing pages are used by all of them.
The only requirement is that your landing page must be excellent. Customers may dismiss your business before even giving it a chance if your landing page is poorly designed or broken.
That’s why – after creating more than a few of my own – I’m here to show you how to create a great landing page in WordPress. So you can get yours up and running in no time, I cover everything from general design tips to the nitty-gritty.
Let’s define a landing page.
What is a Landing Page? and why Important?
A landing page is not the same as a homepage. A homepage is the first page that visitors see when they visit your website; it is your site’s “home.” Homepages serve a variety of purposes, including directing visitors to other pages on your site, providing a familiar landing page, and serving as a central hub for marketing your brand.
A landing page is a single page that is designed to persuade visitors to take a specific action. This could be for more information, to purchase a product or service, or to go to your primary website. A landing page is where you want visitors to “land” after clicking on a link or advertisement.
How to Make an Effective Landing Page
Let’s analyze what makes a landing page effective. If you want to convert visitors, your landing page should have at least these three elements:
- Header: This will catch the attention of your visitors. It’s important to keep it short and sweet.
- Sub-header: This is a bit of text where you explain to your visitors how you can help them. This is a bit of a text where you explain to your audience how you can help them.Though you have a little more room here to expand on your header, your sub-header should be brief and to the point.
- CTA (Call to action): It’s the button you want people to press when they come to your website. It’s as simple as that.
That’s all you need to make a landing page technically. However, you’d end up with something like this: There are a few more things to consider if you want to create an effective landing page:
- Navigation should be as simple as possible: A good landing page will do everything possible to make your call to action stand out. Leads may be lost if your CTA is overshadowed by other navigational elements. Though some navigation elements on landing pages are useful, try to keep them to a minimum.
- Include eye-catching graphics: You don’t want to overcrowd your page with text, but you do need to make it visually appealing. High-resolution images are an excellent way to pique people’s interest in your service. If you can include video, you’ll get bonus points.
- Make use of social proof: Have you received any positive responses so far? Include it on your landing page without hesitation. Humans are by nature social creatures. If visitors see that others have recommended your service, they are more likely to be interested.
- Make it participatory (if appropriate): It’s a good idea to interact with your site’s visitors to keep them engaged. Quizzes, moving bars, and mini-games are all effective ways to get people to click. However, make sure that any interactive elements you use are relevant to what you’re offering. Otherwise, you run the risk of annoying your audience.
- Know who you’re talking to: What services do you provide? Is it classy? Energetic? Trendy? A gaming magazine can also benefit from an in-browser mini-game. In a candle store, a simple quiz can help customers find the perfect candle. Everything from the fonts to the background colors should please your target audience.

Method 1: WP Page Builder
Create a Landing Page with a WP Page Builder
Before we get started, it’s important to understand the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org.
WordPress.org is an open-source website creation and management platform. You may have heard that WordPress is the engine that drives approximately one third of all websites. Yes, that is correct.
You’ll need a web hosting provider and a domain name to use WordPress.org. But don’t worry, this appears to be more difficult than it is.
WordPress.com is the WordPress version that comes with its own web hosting. It’s a lot more like a traditional website builder than WordPress.org. This makes it easier to manage, but it also means it has fewer options.
Let’s begin by using WordPress.org to create a landing page. You can skip ahead if you’re only interested in using WordPress.com.
Step #1: Get a Web Hosting Account.
You’ll need a hosting provider where you can install WordPress and a Page builder before you begin. Stick with it if you’re already using one for your main site or online store; there’s no need to over complicate things. If you don’t have a hosting provider yet, I recommend checking out our list of the best hosting providers in 2022.
Installing WordPress varies depending on your service provider, but it shouldn’t be too difficult with any. For my website, I chose Hostinger. Because Hostinger offers WordPress hosting, all I had to do was create an account and follow the auto-instructions. installer’s
Step #2: Download and install your Page builder
Now that you’ve chosen the right hosting company, it’s time to set up your builder. To get started, go to your WordPress dashboard, go to Plugins, and click “Add New.”
Why limit yourself to page builders when you can simply add a plugin to WordPress? There are plenty of other fantastic plugins out there just waiting to be discovered.
You only need to upload a.zip file if you’ve already downloaded one for your builder. Otherwise, use “search plugins” to find your preferred builder and then click “Install Now.”
Elementor was the page builder I used to create my landing page, but the steps are going to be very similar regardless of which page builder you choose. If you’re not sure which builder to use, I’ve listed some of my favourites below.
Before you begin, experiment with the builder you’ve chosen. Create mock pages, watch YouTube tutorials, and so on. Before diving in, familiarize yourself with your builder’s interface and functions.
Step #3: Make a rough sketch of your page
If you don’t have an unique idea of what you want your landing page to look like, you run the risk of having one that is cluttered and unclear as to how to fix it. That is why it is critical to have a strategy in place.
Make a mock-up of your landing page first. This section has no guidelines. It can be created in Photoshop, MS Paint, or on a napkin. The fact that it can be picked up easily is the only requirement that should be considered.
If you’re not sure where to begin, look at examples of successful landing pages in your niche. Consider your brand, style, and target audience.
For example, I created a landing page for a monthly subscription-based bookstore that sends out personalized recommendations. Aside from the essentials, I decided to include a quiz that suggests new books to the user.
Step #4: Select the Ideal Template
So, you’ve chosen a hosting provider, installed WordPress, and are ready to go with your page builder. Are you ready to move on to the fun part?
Still, you need to pick a template. You could start with a blank page and work your way up, but the number of minor design decisions you’ll have to make – such as fonts, colors, animations, and background designs – may surprise you. The greater the similarity between an existing template and your ideal design, the less effort will be required to realize your vision.
Elementor Template for a Landing Page
This template wasn’t exactly what I was looking for, but it got the job done.
WordPress.org has a large library of templates from which to choose. Your page builder may also have a number of options pre-installed. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, check out our list of the best landing page templates for 2022.
I started with Elementor’s Online Life Coach theme. Despite the fact that I adapted it for a different purpose (ask anyone, I’m not in the position to tell you how to live your life), the elegant fonts and well-organized elements provided a great starting point.
Step #5: Customize Your Page to Fit Your Needs
Everyone’s process for customizing a landing page will be different. Personally, I prefer to begin with the broad strokes and work my way down to the details.
Simply go to your WordPress dashboard, create a new page, and select “edit with Elementor” from the drop-down menu. A menu with various widget options will appear. Select “Site Settings” from the hamburger menu on the top left (the three horizontal lines). You can change the global fonts, background color, and other general aspects of your page here. Options for all Elementors Site settings allow you to change the size of your site’s large strokes.
When you’re finished, click the small squares in the upper right corner of the menu. You’ll see a list of widgets that you can use to customize your site. Text, images, and videos are examples of basic widgets. I decided to upgrade to Elementor Pro in order to gain access to more useful widgets like animated headlines and media carousels.
In either case, simply drag and drop any widget to the desired location on your page. The widget menu will appear when you click on your widget. Color, borders, and even animations can all be customized depending on the widget.
Editing widgets in elator Depending on your plan, you may even be able to edit the custom code for your widgets.
It was at this point that I began to alter the template’s background colors and remove unnecessary elements. I then changed my heading and subheading, as well as adding a space for a quiz.
I wanted to keep my landing page as simple as possible, so I removed the majority of the scrollable elements. For social proof and a short “About Us” section, I only kept the pre-made elements, which I customized to reflect my aesthetic preferences.
A Landing Page Edit Having a well-structured template as a starting point allowed me to customize my design more easily.
The quiz took a little longer than expected. Fortunately, Elementor has a built-in form widget, so it was still fairly simple. If you’re using a different page builder, there are plenty of form plugins you can use.
The Best Page Builders for Landing Pages
It was simple and easy to create my page. On the other hand, the fake book covers are a different matter.
For WordPress, there are a wide variety of page builders. It would be impossible to fit all the best things on a single page. What I can do is give you a quick rundown of my top picks. Elementor offers a large number of template options.
For good reason, Elementor is one of the most popular page builders plugin for WordPress. Elementor is a free tool that allows for powerful drag-and-drop editing. Mastering Elementor’s more interesting features has a bit of a learning curve, but once you get the hang of it, it’s extremely powerful. The following are some of its best landing page features:
- There are numerous third-party themes available. Thousands of Elementor-compatible themes are available online. There are plenty of great landing page themes available to suit any budget.
- Elementor’s free plan isn’t bad at all. Even so, the Pro and Expert plans are reasonably priced and include fantastic features like a theme builder and an advanced popup builder if you need even more functionality.
- It is possible to modify CSS in various ways. As soon as you upgrade to the Pro plan, you’ll have full access to the custom code that powers your website. You’ll need some technical knowledge and experience, but the options are endless.
Divi’s user-friendly editor gives you a lot of creative freedom.
Elegant Themes’ Divi theme is a versatile platform for creating a variety of websites. Despite the large number of customization options available, the module editor is incredibly simple to use. Using Divi’s backend editor, you can make changes to your website at any time.
The following are some of Divi’s best features:
- The editor for modules. All you have to do to edit an element is simply click on it. The element’s various customization options will then appear directly over it.
- The layout packs are fantastic. If you’re looking to build a website, Divi has more than 250 layout packs (or templates).
- Extremely simple to use. Divi is one of the few page builders out there that is as easy to use.
SeedProd is a page builder that focuses on landing pages.
The only page builder on this list that is specifically designed for landing pages is SeedProd. It has a very low learning curve and produces stunning results. It’s especially useful if you’re looking for a landing-page-focused version of Elementor, as the interfaces of both builders are very similar.
SeedProd has a lot of great features, such as:
- Editing that is lightning fast. It takes just minutes to create a great landing page with SeedProd for easy layout and responsive widgets.
- Templates of excellent quality. Depending on your plan, SeedProd provides up to 180+ high-quality and customizable templates.
- Management of subscribers. Subscriber management tools from SeedProd allow you to track subscriber growth and view visual data on your subscription numbers.
Beaver Builder is a landing page builder that is both simple and powerful.
This module-based page builder is easy to learn and use. Its user-friendly interface and wide template variety make it enjoyable for anyone to use, despite its focus on creating pages for agency websites.
Beaver Builder provides the following services:
- Editing that is extremely responsive. There is almost no lag in the editor when you make changes to your website.
- Editing buttons is simple. The clickable button on your website can be fully customized using the tools that are included in Beaver Builder (an especially important element on most landing pages).
- A massive support center has been established. Beaver Builder has hundreds of video tutorials to help you get back on track if you get lost.
Method 2: Gutenberg Editor
Use the Gutenberg Editor in WordPress
If you want to install a page builder on WordPress.com, you’ll need to be on the Pro plan (or any plugins for that matter). Furthermore, most page builders hide their best features behind a paywall, resulting in rapidly rising costs.
In a good way, the Gutenberg editor, which is a simple block editor for creating websites, is included in all WordPress plans. Despite the fact that it has fewer features than many other builders, you can still use it to create an effective landing page for little or no money. Here’s how to do it:
Step #1: Create a WordPress.com Account
There’s a reason why WordPress.com is so popular.
To get started, simply go to WordPress.com and click “get started.” You’ll need to enter your name, email address, and create a password.
After that, pick a domain and a plan. For both, I recommend starting with the free options and upgrading later. Finally, you must decide on a theme. For the time being, choose the blank one (we’ll come back to it later).
Step #2: Create a layout for your landing page.
When it comes to designing for the new Gutenberg editor, this advice is essentially the same as it was before. Don’t make a page with a lot of complicated animations and dynamic backgrounds… I’m not sure, maybe particle effects? You’ll have to make do with the basics with Gutenberg.
However, don’t be put off by this. A good landing page doesn’t require a lot of gimmicks. All you need is a strong call to action and a distinct brand.
Step #3: Choose your theme
It’s time to choose a theme for your page now that you’ve created a road-map for it. Click Appearance, then click Themes in your WordPress.com dashboard.
WordPress Themes for Free Hundreds of simple but well-designed themes are available on WordPress.com.
Choose the one that best fits the look you’re going for. WordPress.com themes are created for a variety of purposes. Find a theme that is optimized for your ideal structure rather than focusing on colors and text styles (which you can always change later).
Step #4: Get To Know Gutenberg
WordPress.com will give you a quick tour of the Gutenberg editor when you first edit your site. This is a fantastic opportunity to brush up on your fundamentals. I also strongly advise that you experiment a little before starting to build your page. Simply experiment with adding and removing blocks to see what happens.
A helpful guide is included with Gutenberg to help you learn the basics.
Go to your dashboard, Appearance, and then Editor to customize your page. You can then begin adding and modifying various blocks to suit your needs. Click the “styles” button in the upper right corner to change more general aspects of your site’s appearance, such as background color, header design, and fonts. What you can and can’t change will be determined by the theme you choose.
Gutenberg is a text editor.
The “Twenty Twenty” theme provided me with all of the design options I required.
Step #5: Make Changes to Your Page
Blocks on WordPress.com are divided into categories such as media, text, and design. The design blocks are especially useful because they allow you to change the basic layout of your site. You can create a more cohesive design by dividing your site into columns, groups, and custom spaces.
Simply go to the top left corner and click on the plus sign to add a new element. WordPress.com has a lot of basic blocks, but the ones for adding and customizing headings, images, and paragraphs are the most useful. Putting Blocks Together WordPress Use various blocks to give your landing page a professional look.
If you need to customize a block, go to its top right and click the “Options” button (three dots) and then “Show more settings.” This will give you different customization options depending on the block, which you can use to change as you want.
Block Options in WordPress
For more design options, click “show more settings” above an element.
You can also use “Patterns,” as defined by WordPress.com. Patterns are pre-assembled blocks that you can use to add common features to your page. CTAs, contact blocks, “about us” sections, and other elements can all be inserted using patterns. Patterns in Gutenberg to make the design process easier.
Suggestion. As long as you have great visuals, a simple structure can work wonders. A professional designer can help you create stunning logos, backgrounds, and other design elements. You can hire experienced designers for a low price on Fiverr.
Because Guttenberg isn’t the most responsive page builder, you should always preview your site. Click “save” when you’re finished with your page editing. Then go to settings, general, and select “Launch Site” from the drop-down menu. That concludes our discussion. Your landing page is now visible to the world.
Method 3: (Bonus)
Ditch WordPress in Favor of a Simpler Alternative
Hello, I have a quick question. What makes you want to use WordPress in the first place? Don’t get me wrong: WordPress is an excellent platform with many features, but it isn’t the only way to create a landing page.
There are numerous website builders available that will allow you to create a successful landing page in half the time. While they can’t compete with WordPress in terms of scalability, they don’t have to for a landing page.
As a bonus, here’s a quick guide to using a website builder to create a landing page.
Step #1: Choose a Website Builder
The best website builder for you will be determined by the features, ease of use, and design flexibility that you require.
My top landing page recommendations are:
- Wix. Wix’s free drag-and-drop editor allows for incredible design flexibility. It’s very user-friendly, so getting used to it takes only a few minutes. It also comes with a variety of cool-looking animated features and pre-made elements that you can use to add some flair to your page.
- SITE123. SITE123 is one of the most user-friendly website builders available. Anyone, regardless of experience, can create a landing page in a matter of minutes with SITE123. It’s also mobile-responsive, so your page will look just as good on a mobile device as it does on a desktop.
- Squarespace. Squarespace is an excellent choice for pages that focus on visuals, draw attention to specific elements, and encourage interaction. I could just as easily have said landing pages. If you want an elegant yet dynamic design that does the majority of the explaining for you, I recommend Squarespace.
I created my own landing page with Wix, but the steps are the same for any builder.
Step #2: Make a design plan and select a template
Absolutely, this is the same one. Because the steps are the same as before, I won’t go into too much detail. Plan out the structure of your page first, then pick a template that closely resembles it. Wix has a library of over 800 high-quality templates (35 of which are specifically designed for landing pages), so finding the perfect foundation for your design shouldn’t be too difficult.
Wix Creative Conference Wix Creative Conference announces the type of event you’re interested in learning more about.
Compared to the Gutenberg editor, website builders give you a lot more design flexibility. Some companies even have dedicated landing page creators. They’re also a lot easier to use. Wix’s drag-and-drop editor, for example, allows you to customize the look and functionality of your template to your heart’s content.
Step #3: Get To Editing
To get started, adjust the color scheme and typography of your theme so that it better reflects your personal taste. Simply go to the left-hand menu and select “site design.” Start deleting elements you don’t need and adding new ones from here.
Experiment with different designs to find something that suits your taste.
To look through the elements, you need only click the plus sign in the top left corner of the screen. Wix has over 20 different element types, ranging from text and decorative elements to store features and a blogging platform. Simply click on an element and drag it to the desired location on the page. Add to the Menu of Sites on Wix Your website can always benefit from the addition of fresh and engaging content, and Wix makes it easy to do so.
I recommend that you take full advantage of Wix’s wide range of dynamic effects, such as animations and transitions. They’re a great way to keep visitors engaged by adding visual interest to your page.
All you have to do is click on an element to edit its properties. You’ll see buttons for various menus appear depending on the element. You can use these menus to edit content, add custom animations, and more.
Change your page until all of the elements are exactly how you want them to be.
Remember to test your site on different devices to ensure that it works well on both mobile and desktop. You’ll have an awesome landing page in no time with a little tweaking.
Landing Page on Wix
Step #4: Publish Your Page
Even if you’re using Wix’s free version, you’ll need to register a domain for your page in order to publish it. Don’t worry; most site builders include an integrated domain register, making it simple to get your site up and running.

The Magic of Landing Page
Great Landing Pages Have a Special Effect
Landing pages are like magic. They are much easier to make than regular websites, but they can help you succeed much more (however you define that). You can now start working on your landing page and getting more leads.
In WordPress, a page builder is a great way to make a landing page. Page builders give you a lot of freedom to be creative, but they can take some time to learn. Elementor is my favorite of the builders available. Its drag-and-drop capabilities make it a powerful but simple-to-use tool.
You can always use WordPress.com if you don’t want to deal with hosting. The Gutenberg editor can help you create inexpensive and effective landing pages, but it lacks the customization features found in most dedicated page builders.
Another option is to use a website builder. Site builders are simple to use and provide advanced customization options. Wix is my favorite option out of all the ones available. It gives you more design freedom than almost any other builder while also being extremely user-friendly, even if you have no prior experience.
Crystal-Clear Landing Page & How to Make Your Own
What is a landing page?
A landing page is a type of web page that is designed to entice visitors to take a specific action. This could be buying a product or service, signing up for a newsletter, or going to a different website. A landing page usually has little to no navigation, clear and concise writing, and a big call to action to make it more likely that visitors will do what the page wants them to do. You should understand the fundamentals of website design if you want to create a landing page.
In WordPress, how do you make a landing page?
It depends on which WordPress version you’re using. If you’re using WordPress.org, the best way to get started is to download a page builder and modify a template. To do this, you’ll need to find your own hosting provider. If you’re not sure which is best for you, check out our guide to the best WordPress hosting providers in 2022. If you’re using WordPress.com, all you have to do is sign up for an account, pick a theme, and start editing.
What is the best WordPress page builder for Landing Page?
This will be different for each person. Divi and Elementor, in particular, appeal to me because they provide real-time editing and a wide range of customization options. Elementor, for example, provides simple drag-and-drop editing as well as a variety of useful Widgets for attracting visitors’ attention. Divi, on the other hand, gives you incredible customization tools and allows you to manage all of your site’s important aspects from a single dashboard. However, the learning curve is steeper.
Is it possible to create a landing page for free?
WordPress.com allows you to create a landing page for free. Just keep in mind that the Gutenberg editor’s free version has a lot of limitations in terms of design freedom. Using a website builder is another option. Wix’s free plan allows you to create a landing page for no cost while also providing you with a number of additional features for customizing your page and engaging your visitors. Many other website builders, including Wix, will allow you to create a landing page for free (or very cheaply). If you’re not sure where to begin, take a look at our list of the best website builders for 2022.
